Don’t Pay For A Gym Membership at Equinox Until You Read This…

If you’re looking to hitting the gym and signing up for a membership at Equinox, start with a EQUINOX VIP Trial Membership. When you’re ready to join and want to save some money on the Equinox membership fees, I have a couple of suggestions that you can use to help lower the price of a membership. Equinox has many locations from New York to Los Angeles, and many places in between.
Equinox VIP Trial Membership

1.Sign-Up With A Friend

First things first, if you and a friend both want to work out together then definitely sign up together at Equinox to get a discount. Sometimes the staff at Equinox may say it has to be a family or something, but the main thing they look for I believe is that you live at the same address. I have yet to receive anything in the mail outside of the membership card itself, so just pick which address you’ll use and you’ll save some money that way. Each member when signing up will receive 2 VIP trial memberships per year that they can give out to friends.

2. Pay In-Full

Also, if you’re able to pay upfront they’ll also work with you in lowering your overall cost so you can get a good deal. If you can afford to (and I’m assuming you can if you’re going to this gym) then consider paying 6 months or a year in advance.

3. Use Your AMEX Benefits

Do you have an American Express card? They have different benefits for AMEX cardholders. Whether it’s the Gold, Platinum, or Centurion Card… you’ll get some extras included. Like some free personal training sessions, discounts at the spa and shop. Since you’ll be getting these goodies you’ll most likely have to pay the standard price for your new one-year membership.

4. Look For Promotions

I talked to my trainer about when people usually sign up. Thinking it would be an obvious January, but in fact it’s February. Most people make their new year plans of accomplishments the first month and start to follow through the next month. So in late January and early February be sure to keep a look out at some promotional offers they have. They could be offering some like no initiation fee, or student discounts. It wouldn’t hurt to get on their mailing list to be kept updated of what offers they have on their membership prices.

5. Corporate Discounts

Depending on where you work, you may also be entitled to a corporate discount. So name drop where you work and have them look it up. You never know, you may save 20% or more depending on what the company has negotiated with the fitness club.

6. Free 7 Day Trial

Hey, why not! One week free is better than nothing right? I did the free trial thing, and it help reinforce that the location and facility was a good fit for me. It’s expensive, so it’s worth being sure of when you sign the contract. Nothing is worse than paying a monthly fee to a gym you never will go to. They have several types of trials available, but typical you’ll need a referral from someone. The ideal trial you want is the VIP one, but they also have a 3 day pass as well as a 7 day trial membership.

Let me know if you need a free trial. I’ve been an Equinox member for 2 years and I love it. The facility has provided me a great place to do strength training, swim, cardio, and cycling. All of the classes that are offered make the price worth it if you choose to take advantage of them. I’m happy to answer any questions, or provide you with an invite to get started with a Free Trial Membership.  Just submit your name and email address below or send me an email with your name and email address to me at rayholt (at) live [dot] com.

Other Tips

So stop by the gym during your normal routine and not just on some idle weekend. Get an idea of what traffic and everything will be like to help you decide between locations that are within your proximity. One location that is closest to home may not be the best option if there is one closest to work. Like if you live in New York or Los Angeles… when you get off work you can get to the gym, work out while traffic dies down, and then head home and save time plus having your workout already out of the way. Also, I’m not sure if all locations have a swimming pool… so if that is something that is important to you then be sure that the Equinox location you choose has one.

I hope all of this helps. If I think of anything else I’ll be sure to add to it.

Base Jumping

Base JumpingOne Thing I’ve Never Done is Base Jumping in a Foreign Country

Something I’ve always wanted to do in addition to traveling abroad and seeing other countries is to go base jumping while I’m there. Base jumping is similar to sky diving, except you jump off of a fixed object like a building or bridge. I’d like to see some of the worlds most popular places to base jump and do it! One of the most notorious places would be the Cave of the Swallows in Mexico, which is the largest known cave shaft in the world. I think the movie Sanctum features this cave as the one that they base jump into.

A Hesitation is a Missed Opportunity

I’m hanging out at the Starbucks in the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, CA reading through some online articles on personal development.  I noticed that my battery on my computer was about getting close to dying and there was not a power outlet close to me. I figured I’d sit tight till someone got up from one of the seats close to one. I glanced up momentarily and noticed that one of the tables with a power plug was now empty and my first thought was to get up and move, but I hesitated.  I even caught myself in that brief moment to question why I’m hesitating and clearly knowing the consequences of a very busy place will have that seat snatched up in a second.

I then quickly grabbed my computer and my bag. Just as I was getting up someone had made their way to the table and sat down. Those few seconds of hesitating I missed out on that opportunity. Of course it’s not the end of the world. There will be another table available shortly if I wait, but that’s not the point. The point is that I clearly knew what I wanted to do, I knew I needed a table with an outlet, and the opportunity presented itself and I had to take a second to rethink it? Buy why? I think it’s human nature to sometimes over analyze and over think. It takes some training to mentally be clear of what you want to do and then pursue them without worry or fear of failure.

When I was attending college at Fresno State I remember coming up with a saying “A hesitation is a missed opportunity”. That saying was what had inspired me to make decisions more quickly, to really tune into my intuition and go after the things I knew I wanted before fear or doubt could seep in. Once you train your mind to think in this fashion it really allows yourself to take advantage of many opportunities that life presents to you.  Time is of the essence, and not all opportunities will await until you are ready to accept them.

Think of a time you saw someone you really wanted to talk to and you hesitated. You let fear sink in. You started thinking about what you should say, what they may say back, what if they aren’t interested, what if they reject you. Then they end up being approached by someone else or leaving before you had your chance. All those thoughts you just had are now turned into more pointless “what if’s?”. Now you become optimistic in your thoughts once you have missed the opportunity. You’re now thinking “what if they were the one”, or “what if I had gone and talked to them”.

Opportunities like this happen again and again. Some on a small scale and some on a much larger scale. Once you tune into your intuition of knowing exactly what you want to achieve don’t hesitate. Try it out and see where it takes you in life.

Tell me who your friends are, and I will tell you who you are

“Tell me who your friends are, and I will tell you who you are.”

“Birds of the same feather flock together.”

“Guilty by association”

“A mirror reflects a man’s face, but what he is really like is shown by the kind of friends he chooses.”

I’m sure you’ve heard one of these sayings before. People interpret these proverbs in many different ways. At first glance you may think “my friends do this and I don’t, so you can’t judge me off of my friends”. If you are thinking along these lines then stop!  If you tell me this about your friends it tells me that you are an excepting person of people of various lifestyles, not that you necessarily share the same lifestyle as your friend. This saying is not always about passing judgement or stereotyping people.  Simply that you are a product of your environment. How could someone not be? It’s your life experiences everyday that make you who you are. Try to grasp the greater understanding of these sayings.

Those friends that you share your life with contribute to those experiences and help create that person and character that you are.  The less you associate with some people, the more your life will improve. We know the people that bring us down in life. We know the people that lift us up, because in their presence we want to become better people. Any time you tolerate mediocrity in others, it increases your mediocrity. One characteristic I’ve seen in successful people is their impatience with negative thinking and negative acting people. Those that don’t increase you will eventually decrease you.

As you excel in life (let’s hope you are), your friends and acquaintances will change.  Some of your friends will resist this and not want you to go on. They remain stagnant in life and will want you to as well. Sometimes they may excel later on in life and never look back at you to provide the company you once provided them. I see this a lot, but this is a another topic of discussion. Friends that don’t help you up will want you to remain stagnant with them. Your friends will expand your vision or choke your dream.

“Consider this: Never receive counsel from unproductive people. Never discuss your problems with someone incapable of contributing to the solution, because those who never succeed themselves are always first to tell you how. Not everyone has a right to speak into your life. You are certain to get the worst of the bargain when you exchange ideas with the wrong person. Don’t follow anyone who’s not going anywhere. With some people you spend an evening: with others you invest it. Be careful where you stop to inquire for directions along the road of life. Wise is the person who fortifies his life with the right friendships.”
